Shakespeare’s Macbeth is bold and resolute in the moment of action but in silence he becomes prey to his own hallucinations.

Is Macbeth finally feeling guilt?

In this painting, Macbeth has already declined to sit down at the Banquet, sighting that the “The table’s full”. He sees the ghost of Banquo in his place, but as no one else seems to see it, his words are not understood. He refers to the sight as that “Which might appal the devil” where Lady Macbeth assures him and tells him that “This is the very painting of your fear” and that his inner fear is but a projection that arises from his guilty conscience.

Being consistent to Shakespeare-A work of Art collection, marionette ropes were added to the characters denoting a double meaning. We are all but puppets to this world, was this freemason trying to tell us something? Shakespeare was a master play writer who always had his characters on a tight rope and Macbeth was no exception.
